Life and all it's intricacies.
We will paint on your hands and feet.
The colour of mud shows heat in the blood.
Henna is the Earth and all her fertility.
We'll darken your lifeline,
To deepen with time.
Adding soul to the magic that is to be.
Your life and all it's intricacies.
"A marriage has come to town" from the movie Bride and Prejudice

Bride and Prejudice is still one of my favourite movies, my crush on Lalita forever forged. So, Henna is the dye and Mehndi is the art form.
Day one of Northern Indian Wedding, it started with blessing for the groom. Rather than talk about something I have no understanding of, watch the clip.
After breakfast, the band showed up and started the festivities.
I was told we would be headed to another venue for dinner and to be ready by a certain time. It was the first time I would be wearing a kurta and was quite nervous about pulling it off and also feeling comfortable in it. It has been more than half my lifetime that I was in something that somewhat resembled a dress. And as always, I was one of the first to be ready, so I decided to have a bit of fun with everyone else's entrance.
We all arrived to the venue and in the main hall, the food was ready for the taking, of course it made sense to have the entrees in the furthermost corner, pani puri, aloo tikki and fried noodles. My fave dessert was on the other side, jalebi. The main food was the familiar foods, dal and curries, rice and roti. There was also a grilled plate, mixture of veg and non veg.
There was no seating in this main hall, so we ended up siting in the dance hall, the band was going, photo opportunities with the groom. It wasn't until the very end that the Mhendi started. Shivali's son wanted a canvas so I let him have my hand, another child joined in.
